I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I’m a huge fan of mineral makeup. Of course, I like some mineral brands more than others and certain products within each brand differently.
My favorite mineral blush comes from Bare Escentuals. Unfortunately, it has slowly gotten out of my price range. Consequently, I’ve been forced to go on the hunt for acceptable alternatives. One of those that I like very much comes from Maybelline. It is called Mineral Power Naturally Luminous Blush.
There are several things to like about this blush. First, is its range of colors. These include Fresh Plum, Gentle Pink, Original Rose, Soft Mauve and True Peach. While the colors are limited, these are very neutral based in nature and should fit almost every skin tone.
Next, I like that Maybelline Mineral Power Naturally Luminous Blush contains no fragrance, oil, preservatives or talc. Those are all ingredients well known for their high irritation factor on delicate skin.
That does not; however, mean that this blush is free of additives and chemicals. Those, unfortunately, still exist but in no higher quantities than other similiar cosmetic options.
Mineral Power Naturally Luminous Blush is made with micro-minerals so tiny that they are virtually guaranteed not to clog pores. The mineral consistency is extremely light an airy, which also ensures its ability to blend well into the skin.
Finally, I love how easy the blush is to apply. You simply unscrew the pot top and remove the label, allowing the minerals to flow free. Shake to loosen them up and work some of them into the cap.
Using a good blush brush, pat the bristles into the mineral powder, swirling it deep inside the bristles. Remove excess minerals by tapping the brush on the side of the jar before using.
Sweep and swirl the blush onto the apples of the cheeks in a circular motion and then work lightly out and up the cheekbones. Add more color as needed for deeper intensity.
Maybelline’s blush pot is small and convenient. Maybelline products can be purchased almost anywhere makeup is sold including some beauty boutiques, discount department stores, and some grocery marts. The cost is reasonable at between $8 and $10, depending upon where it is purchased.
Here is my summary review:
Variety: 4 stars. There could be more colors to choose from, say in browns and reds.
Ease of application: 5 stars. It is almost impossible to mess up. Add a little for a natural look or a lot for a more dramatic effect.
Packaging: 5 stars. The blush comes in convenient little plastic pots about 2 ½” in diameter and 1″ in height. The color of the top reflects the color of the blush inside.
Ease of storage: 5 stars. It fits easily into a handbag, cosmetic organizer, train case, or medicine cabinet.
Ease of purchase: 5 stars. Maybelline products can be found everywhere – beauty boutiques, discount department stores, drug stores, and even in some grocery marts. It can also be purchased online.
Price: 5 stars. It is a bargain mineral blush at just $8. Avoiding cross contamination, it can also last a long time.
Effectiveness: 5 stars. I don’t think there is a better bargain mineral blush on the market today.
Product purchase probability: 5 stars. I will absolutely purchase this blush again.
Retailer purchase probability: 5 stars. I got mine at Wal-Mart where I shop constantly so it is the perfect place for me to make a purchase.
