Hey guys! Today I’m dishing allll about the Maybelline New York Super Stay Under-Eye Concealer that’s been ALL over TikTok lately. If you’re perpetually on the hunt for the perfect concealer like I am, you’ve probably been eyeing this one and wondering if it’s worth the hype. Well, I put it to the ultimate test to give you the real scoop! 🕵️♀️
Application & Coverage
Let’s start with the basics: application. This concealer has a flat paddle applicator which I’m totally here for. 🙌 It makes it SO easy to swipe on the perfect amount of product without overdoing it. The formula itself is nice and thick – def full coverage vibes. It spread easily and a little went a long way!
Now for the real test…covering up my dark circles! You guys know I’m always battling those pesky under-eye bags. 😴 But this concealer? BOOM 💥 Covered them right up in one swipe! I was legit shook. The finish was really smooth and I didn’t have to layer it on. Major points for coverage!
Some reviewers said the applicator can get a little gunky with product, and I did notice that happening after a few uses. So just make sure you’re not overloading it to avoid wasting product. But overall, A+ on application and coverage!
Shade Range
NGL, the shade range is where this concealer gets a little wonky. 😬 There seem to be a lot of deeper options, which is awesome, but finding a good light-to-medium shade match was more of a struggle. I got the shade “Deep Bronze” which straight up looked like CONTOUR on my light skin. Def not the move for concealing!
Browsing through reviews, it seems like the shades overall run preeetty dark. Like, even the lightest shade “Cool Ivory” looks more medium-toned. So my fellow pale peeps, we might be outta luck with this one. Major bummer. If you have deeper skin though, the shade range might be perfect for you!
One callout is that “Deep Bronze” and the other deep shades seem to have pretty neutral undertones. So if you’re trying to color correct intense dark circles, you might not get that brightening effect. Peachier or more red tones are usually better for canceling out blue/purple discoloration. Just a heads up!
Staying Power
Okay, let’s talk about the most important thing: STAYING. POWER. Maybelline claims this bad boy lasts up to 24 hours which is a pretty wild claim. I mean, who is out here wearing concealer for a full 24 hours?! 😂 But hey, if it can last through my 12-hour days, I’m happy!
Lemme tell you, this concealer DELIVERED on the lasting front. I put it to the test on a super long day running around the city. We’re talking 90 degree heat, facial sweat, the works. And you know what? This stuff DID. NOT. BUDGE. I was preeeetty dang impressed!
No creasing, no fading, no smudging. By the end of the day, my under-eyes still looked as fresh as when I applied it in the morning. Which is saying a lot because usually by 5pm I’m rocking full-on raccoon eyes. 🦝 This concealer saved me from that fate!
Now, Maybelline does call this a “waterproof” formula, but I wouldn’t necessarily put that claim to the test. Like, I wouldn’t go swimming in it or anything. But for everyday wear and tear, it holds up amazingly well. Def lives up to the “Super Stay” name!
Formula & Finish
Let’s talk about the actual formula. This concealer has a true matte finish, but it’s not flat or dry looking. I’d say it’s more of a natural matte. It doesn’t look or feel heavy on the skin at ALL which I love. Basically undetectable!
The formula is definitely on the thicker side, but it doesn’t feel like it’s weighing down my under-eye area. A little setting powder on top and I’m good to go. No caking or settling into fine lines over here! 👌
I will say, if you have REALLY dry under-eyes, you might want to prep with a hardcore eye cream first. This isn’t the most moisturizing concealer in the world. But for me, it worked just fine as long as I had my usual skincare routine underneath.
Some people said they had trouble blending this concealer out, but I didn’t experience that at all. I used a damp beauty sponge and it melted right into my skin seamlessly. I think the key is just working quickly before it sets down.
Oh, and even though it’s an under-eye concealer, apparently it pulls double-duty as a contouring product too! I saw some videos of people using the deep shades to chisel out their cheekbones and I was like 🤯 Multitasking makeup for the WIN!
Bang for Your Buck
You guys know your girl loves a good high-end product moment. But I’ve gotta say, this Maybelline concealer PERFORMS. And the best part? It’s from the drugstore! We’re talking less than $15 for a full-size tube. 🙌
Considering how well it wears and how little you need to use per application, I think this concealer is a total steal. Honestly, it beats out a lot of my more expensive concealers in terms of coverage and lasting power. Don’t tell my Dior Backstage Flash Perfector Concealer that I said that! 🙊
There were some reviewers that said their tube seemed dried out, but that hasn’t happened to me yet. I think as long as you’re not leaving the lid off or storing it improperly, you should be good to go. But it’s a bummer to hear some people got bad tubes!
Final Thoughts
Soooo, what’s the final verdict? Overall, I’m giving the Maybelline Super Stay Concealer a solid 9/10. The coverage is chef’s kiss, the longevity is legit incredible, and you just can’t beat that drugstore price point!
My only real gripe is the shade range being a little off for lighter skin tones. Maybelline, if you’re listening, we need some paler options! But if you can find your shade match in this concealer, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
